I have bugs jumping in my bed. Are they bed bugs? How do I get rid of them?

They look black and not brown and i try to touch one, but it jumps really far and fast. I don’t know what kind of bugs these are, what they will do, or how to get rid of them. I also have bugs crawling on my wall mostly. They look more like bedbugs and mostly just crawl slowly. They seem to like my bathroom trash, and I’m a girl, so I think those might be bedbugs. I read on Wikipedia that they like to feed on blood and may cause psychological affects to the host. What kind of psychological effects? How do I get rid of the other critters on my bed?
They are smaller than lice.
I live in an apartment with free pest control once a month. I don’t have any pets and neither do my roommates. My boyfriend does though, and sometimes I sleep over there. His cat and dog both have fleas, and his cat is allowed on his bed. So could it still be fleas?

Most likely either bed bugs or lice.

if you see a bug who do you call bug busters

If they jump around, they might be fleas. If you’re seeing bug in or near your trash, you may be looking at gnats- or both.

Start by washing your bedding- all of it- in hot water. While you’re doing that, liberally sprinkle your bed and surrounding carpet with borax and let that sit at least 20 minutes, then vacuum up. Meanwhile with your garbage can, empty that and clean it with something potent such as bleach, then let it air for a while.

As for psychological effects- well, the itching certainly is enough to drive just about anyone up the wall! But the bugs themselves don’t cause such things.

    Good luck!

What does being a girl have to do with whether or not they are bedbugs?

    You have fleas.
Do you have bites? If so, I’d bet they’re at random points – especially around your ankles.
Flea bombs will help this issue. You can get good ones at local department stores (Walmart). Read the instructions and DON’T skip the second round of treatments – it’ll kill off the residuals & hatchlings. Skipping the second treatment will get you right back to where you are. Treat any pets you have that come into the house.
If you have lines of bites along your body, then you have bedbugs. They normally only come out at night. They’re really thin (can fit between floorboards) until they eat. When they feed, they feed in a line/path and leave little calling cards. You may or may not feel them. The ones I’ve seen don’t jump, they run.
Don’t feel traumatized – these things happen. I’ve seen offices at work that have fleas and nobody knows why. In the old days they called it immaculate conception.
Best thing you can do is get rid of them the right way first.
If you’re having problems/issues with performing the treatment or it’s a communal area, consider having a professional treat it.

If they jump really far and fast it sounds like fleas. Do you have a dog or cat who sleeps on the bed? Here’s fleas and here’s bed bugs They’re quite different looking and different colors as well. Fleas are quite tiny and jump like nothing else. It sounds like you have 2 different bugs in your room since fleas don’t crawl up walls. Throw out the trash and wash the bedding and vacuum the area including the wall and throw out the vacuum bag – outside not in a pail indoors. If there are fleas in it they will get out again.

If they are jumping, they are fleas. But the guys on the wall sound like something else – not bed bugs, not fleas. I’d recommend you call a pest control company, or go to the hardware store and at least get a flea bomb.

If you are young, tell your parents to do this.

Obviously, you need to wash your bedding after you get rid of the bugs. I’d also recommend vacuuming your entire room – floors and mattress and any couches/chairs you have in there. Dump the trash and wash out the trash barrel. Then pay attention to cleanliness in the future. While the fleas aren’t due to a lack of cleanliness, the bugs near your trash probably are – so pay attention, and keep things clean.

I’d recommend not bringing food or anything sweet/sticky into your room. Leave that stuff in the kitchen and etc.
