Why doesn’t impaling the heads of bedbugs on toothpicks make the other bedbugs get scared and leave?

I remove the heads of the bedbugs and impale them on toothpicks. Then I place them all around my mattress. The other bedbugs see the impaled heads of their bedbug families, friends and neighbors but they aren’t getting scared and leaving. Why are bedbugs so cold hearted and unfeeling? They should have all left by now.
