Bugs and living in Florida…?
ByCan a person who has a major problem with spiders still find happiness living in Florida? I kinda have a problem with other bugs, too. But, it’s spiders that I have a major problem with (I have arachnophobia to a large extent.) I live in PA and absolutely HATE the winters we have. I can deal with the heat and humidity (at least I’m outside and not cooped up in the warm house.) So, I’m stuck between being forced indoors for 5 months out of the year thanks to the horrible cold, or moving to Florida and facing my fears firsthand.
Are the bugs really as bad as us northerners say they are? AND would I be able to survive in a buggy environment?

Yea, the bugs are as bad as they say they are. I mean, people have screened in their entire back yard pools. Some cities have fly-over-misting once a week and the next day there’s so many on the ground.
Don’t know what else to tell you.

Then i suggest you find a place that doesn’t have a lot of insects.

There are bugs in Central Florida. Lots of them. Spiders, cockroaches, ants, mosquitoes, love bugs, flies, and many many more. Due to our short cold season the insects do not die off like they would do in a colder climate. Our insects are larger and more numerous . Floridians go to great lengths to rid their homes of insects life, and it is a never ending war. Somewhere I read that we have more pest control companies than any where else in the US.
Maybe Florida is not for you.

Honestly, yes they are a problem down there. I lived all over Florida for 30+ years before moving out west.
Spiders are not as big a problem as the roaches, fire ants and further north you are yellow flies. Love bugs are a nuisance as they can cause paint damage to your car. Snakes, alligators, lizards etc are everywhere.

We have had a 5 bedroom villa in Kissimmee Fl since 2001, we use it ourselves and also rent it out,we have never had a problem with spiders or cockroaches, we do have a insect screen over the pool area which must keep out flying insects, but we think it is where and what type of property you buy ,if its a house standing on its own near woods you will get all types of insects but if your house is in the middle of a finished community far less problems, take a look at our house to see where it is situated http://www.a1floridavilla.com we do get very small spiders now and again but this time I have only seen one since Nov 1st until now.
hope this helps
