Gigantic Bug Found In Mostly Basement Of House. What Is It?

There are these really large bugs in the basement of my house, and outside. The body is the size of a descent marble or bigger, they have long legs, like the length of daddy long legs, but the build of a cricket. They jump REALLY high, as well as walk really fast. Body is kind of darker color, maybe with some lighter spots. Can’t tell, they move too fast. Help with name and possibly picture. thanx

If I am picturing it right, it might be what my husband calls a katydid. He said they wont hurt you, but I’m scared to death of them. Especially when they jump.

is it one of those locust /grasshopper type bugs? can they fly?
