I have this reoccuring nightmare. That I am on a helicopter (this last time, with my younger brother) and all of a sudden I get ahorrible feeling that we are going to crash. Moments later, we start spinning, the lights are off and on, we hear rumbling, everything to show we are about to crash land. My life flashes before my eyes, and I truly believe I am going to die. Until I pray, or just consentrate my thoughts. And tell myself, it will be okay. It will be over soon. Infact the last time I had the dream – lastnight – i eventually told my little brother, “I have had a dream like this before. But I can’t figure out if this is a dream or not.”

ANYWAY, all of a sudden, we land. Perfectly. On a platform, even. But on a random island, with walls. In one corner, there is a volcano, which seems active, and makes me nervous, but never erupts. And only gurgles. The platform is a bit high. Next to some kind of mountain wall that is difficult to go up or down, but not impossible. I go look around, and eventually end up telling my little brother we have to fly home. I ask him if there is any water left, and he says no. Which leaves me a bit uneasy. Then, we start to “take off”, knowing that the helicopter will never make it, and we will surely crash again.

As usual, the helicopter begins shaking, spazzing, and begins to crash, but we land okay.
We end up at home. Which is signified by a home I spent a lot of time in as alittle kid. My dad, my stepmom, and my stepsiblings are getting ready for dinner. They have realized Kirk and i were missing, but completely tune us out when I try to tell them what happened, and that we are lucky to be alive.

If anyone is an accurate interpreter, the main things I am wondering about is of course the significance of falling out of control, and believing, and almost preparing to die, while staying calm. And then landing gently. As though nothing was ever wrong. If there is anything else you could tell me about, I would REALLY appreciate it. I find it incredibly interesting.
Zia Lucia – thank you so much for taking the time to explain some things to me! Especially the part about my little brother possibly symbolizing the younger, more vulnerable part of me and also kind of comforting me. In fact I agree with pretty much everything you said. Like how, since it is reoccurring, clearly whatever feeling or event is causing the dream is reoccurring as well, and clearly not being fixed. Also, when you mentioned that there is nothing in the dream that suggests a way to fix the problem- within the dream or within real life, I found that very interesting! I had never even thought of that. You definitely know what you are talking about! Thank you again for giving me so much insight!

Bob – I think you may have, in a way, hit the nail on the head. You mentioned that the reason my childhood home was in my dream may be because something “big” happened in my life during that age, and you are completely right. That was the last house I was in before my parents divor
ced. Which also explains what you said about my brother possibly being in my dream because he may have been through something similar. He is my sibling so of course he had to go through our parents splitting up as well.

Though I do not think that in particular is what my dream was about, I did feel out of control at that time of my life; and recently, dealing with a bad break up and going through many other changes has left me feeling… dare I say it.. “out of control.”

ALSO: yes, the helicopter dream is a dream within the “beetle dream”. Could that have any significance?

Last night I dreamt that I was in bed with my ex-husband (we were just sleeping) and he said to me that he felt like something was crawling on him. I looked and he was covered in maggots. They were all in his arm and leg hair and falling from his hair on his head. I jumped out of bed and began feeling itchy and noticed that I had maggots all over me as well. We stripped the bed and under the covers were maggots. We then flipped the mattress off the box springs and there were just piles of crawling, large, gross, maggots… Then I woke up. What the heck. It was so gross and disturbing! I usually do not care about the meaning of dreams, but this is the second time in the past week I have dreamt of “bugs” in my bed. The first time it was spiders!! Anyone know what it could mean?

Maggots- To see maggots in your dream, represents your anxieties about death. It may also be indicative of some issue or problem that you have been rejecting and it is now “eating away” at you . You need to confront it for it is destroying your sense of harmony and balance.

Spider- To see a spider in your dream, indicates that you are feeling like an outsider in some situation. Or that you may want to keep your distance and stay away from an alluring and tempting situation. The spider is also symbolic of feminine power. Alternatively, a spider may refer to a powerful force protecting you against your self-destructive behaviour. If you kill a spider, it symbolizes misfortune and general bad luck.

Most of my work experience has been conservation surveying (bird, butterfly populations) and biological control. For my biological control experiments I have used different concentrations of natural oils on phorid fly larva to see what effect it had on hatching and also worked planting willow beetle resistant trees near non-resistant trees to see if less would be attacked. I had always planned to combine conservation work and biological control but during my last year of uni I became quite passionate about fisheries management.

I completed a zoology overseas project in Australia where I worked with sea turtles, helping with injured sea turtles and taking them to the rehabilitation centers, I also focused on the effect of marine debris and over fishing, which was the main cause of illness, injury and death in sea turtles along with degradation of beaches, this is what got me interested but it is really the only experience I have.

I would love to get more involved and hopefully forge a career in fishery management, mainly the study of over fishing but I am wondering if I have gotten interested in this too late to build up my work experience for when I finish my course (it’s next year). Does anyone have any ideas on what would be the best way for me to move forward, or where is a good place to try and get experience. I live in the UK
