I want to move into my basement but I’m really scared!?

I really want to move my bedroom into the basement. But it has lots of bugs like spiders and millipedes (or maybe centipedes I’m not sure) I’m not really worried about the bugs cause i can always fix that, But still it’s so so so so so scary! I want a bigger room so badly.

~My own bathroom
~My own Fridge
~I already planed out how to make it pretty (:

~ 2 floors away from the rest of my family
~ dark at night
~ Super creepy
~ only one window and all you can see out of it is dirt (ew)

I’m also afraid of there being an emergency like a fire and i would be trapped. Getting some kinda like escape thing would be really expensive and there is a pretty good chance that I wouldn’t need it but still…A lot of people live in their basement and it seems like a cool idea but I’m mainly worried about not being able to sleep at night during the day its not creepy but at night it is…PLEASE HELP!

This is the perfect question for people who are obsessed with cleaning. I love cleaning and I live in the basement (I’m 17 and my sister is 22) and my sister doesn’t even clean it, so usually I’m the one cleaning it. I spray the corners with bug sprayand wash the walls with bleach so centipedes or insects can’t come in. I just saw a centipede and I really want to clean EXTREMELY so that I’ll have a huger chance of never having to see them again. I want my basement sparkling clean, so what are some extreme and effective ways I can do to clean the basement from wall to floor? Keep in mind, we have carpet, so I really want to do more than just clean the carpet, I wanna know if I can clean it even more than a vaccum can clean. Also, I need tips for the walls / couches (that we’ve had for a while) and yeah.

How do I remove basement mold?

Long story short, my girlfriends cat is sick because of the amount of mold in her family’s basement. The cat spends a decent amount of time in the area because it’s the only place in the house for the liter boxes to be. He’s been ill for quite some time (on medication of course, but not showing any progress) and the vet basically forgot to tell my girlfriend and her family where the disease came from. After a lot of research we’ve finally learned that the mold in the basement is what caused the disease and what’s been keeping him ill.
So, we’re now on a mission to clean the basement. Without funding to pay for a professional cleaning, we’re on our own and we don’t know where to start. The basement is huge, full of things that can’t be removed and really, REALLY dirty (filled with spiders, webs and other bug like creatures that we don’t want to deal with). The cause of the mold is obvious, the sump pump and trenches surrounding the entire enclosure. Water has been sitting in the trenches every spring and winter for nearly fifty years and has since caused tons of mold on the walls. I mean, tons! It’s very obvious where it is and it’s also very obvious that we aren’t going to get it all. We’re okay with that. We just want to know what the best way is the kill off the spores enough to allow this cat to get well. After we can figure out a way to stunt the growth we’ll work on saving money to get it professionally cleaned.
All suggestions are more than welcome!
They used a dehumidifier for a very long time and recently shut it off because it was running their electric bill through the roof. Not an option unfortunately.

Moving my room to the basement ?

I really wanna have my room in the basement. It’d be like my own little apartment. My parents don’t mind me moving down there, since no one uses it, but the only thing holding me back is bugs & “ghosts” lol I know that’s immature to say but idk my basements kinda creepy ! & I’m 14 so privacy is also something I love. How can I overcome the fear??

Im moving to Boston very soon and will be looking for apartments this week.
I saw a couple of craigslist and the largest apartment for the cheapest rate is a garden level (or basement) apartment. It does have 1/2 size windows from the pictures I saw.
My biggest question is how much problem do basement apartments generally have when it comes down to bugs, rats…etc (in boston) and how much of a heat problem it would be during summer.

I have other options but at the moment this basement apartment looks like the best bang for the buck.

I’ve been finding small bugs in my basement apartment, not much larger than a sesame seed. These bugs are round and hard like a beetle, but aren’t ticks… there doesn’t appear to be a mouthpiece or a set of feelers that I can detect. They seem to hang out on clothing or on my couch, they haven’t harmed me thus far (although I have plenty of unexplained bites from living in a basement apartment during the rainy season). They seem to squish easily :[ (oops) I haven’t gotten the chance to count legs. Anyone have any ideas?
