Suburban Garden – ‘Japanese’ Beetles: The “Solution”
Posted by: | Comments
The solution to the J-beetle problem – and a bloody poor solution it seems to be – is to simply catch as many of the blighters as possible and take their generations out of the world until something natural comes along to control their numbers. How would you like to be walking, running, biking, gardening, etc. and have one of these hefty things slam into your face – or mouth?!! Gag, wretch!

are beetles a problem in your vegetable garden?
Posted by: | Commentsi added some garden soil to my raised beds and now they are crawling with these tiny black beetles that have yellow irregular pattern on their back. not spots or stripes or zigzags. they’re small enough to walk around on your pinky nail. so far my plants dont show any damage but the beetles only started arriving days ago. they seem to like burrowing and moving through the soil. i grow several different vegetables from potatoes to lettuce and squash. thank you.
Carpet Beetles Feeding On Cat Fur

Carpet beetles are small (5-7mm) mottled or striped round beetles. They are good fliers and can be found in the garden. The adult causes no damage. It is the larvae, sometimes known as ‘woolly bears’ that damage woolens, and other fabrics of animal origin. There are a number of species that frequently infest homes and places where animal fabric and fur is stored. They are frequently found devouring the woolens and carpets of New Zealand homes. If you find the larvae or pupae in your home eradication and control can be achieved by a combination of thorough vacuuming to remove larvae, pupae and animal hairs, and insecticidal treatment of affected areas. We recommend using Deltaforce Plus insecticide for DIY treatments. Call us on 0800 83 70 70 or email: service@flybusters.co.nz

Is there a difference in powder post beetles and powder post termites?
Posted by: | CommentsWe have just built a home and have discovered powder post beetles in our flooring. When I talked to my exterminator, he made it sound like they were beetles and our course of action should be fumigation (tenting it). Fumigation of our home would range between $8,000 – $10,000. That seems a bit high and maybe a bit hasty. I called another exterminator for a second opinion and they said it should be covered by my pretreat due to it being of they termite family. I have investigated but I am still unsure if they are the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.
