Is this the work of termites or carpenter ants, and what should I do ?

I was going to ask a handyman to repair that, unless it’s termites or ants.
This pillar is about 11 years old, and is supporting the front patio of a rental house. It sounds hollow like the others ones, although none of the others show any exterior sign of degradation at all (for now).
Rid of carpenter ants?

Safe way to kill carpenter ants but keep dog safe?
Posted by: | CommentsI have an outdoor wooden pen for my Husky. I just noticed theres some ants that have decided to make there nest in the wooden door we built. I’ve had this pen for about 13 years and this is the first ant problem I’ve had with it. Is there any safe way to kill off the ants without harming my husky? Shes an old girl, about 15 if that matters.
