It started with three cats and after three years of litters of kittens there are more than ten (the ones she didn’t sell) running all over the place. The newer generations aren’t even friendly so she’s not finding homes for them anymore; she’s starting a damn feral colony in my backyard! I can’t put my birds out to enjoy the sun anymore, my dogs are constantly barking when the cats are around… Honestly, if she lived on a damn farm with ten acres of land or if this were an every-so-often thing I wouldn’t care WHAT she did with her animals… but they shouldn’t be causing neighborhood-wide havoc on a near daily basis.

How can I approach this with her? I thought about having all the neighbors who complain each write her a letter… but if she doesn’t care, then she doesn’t care. I did try talking to her about it before, I told her they were pooping in my garden and she laughed as if it was something endearing. I asked her to keep them inside and she said “well, they’re outdoor cats, they’re not pets.”

There are no animal control places willing to help me; I’ve called ALL of them in my area. I know I can talk to her, but we have a civil relationship and I don’t want to deal with neighbor drama.

What can I do?? Is there any technicality since she said they aren’t pets where I can set traps and take them to the humane league? I don’t want to do anything illegal or anything to hurt the cats… I just need them to leave my family in peace! I want to have friends over without my house smelling like I took cans of cat piss and threw it all over my walls. I want to feel comfortable eating the food I grow without worrying about what bacteria might be there form the poop. I want my birds to enjoy the sunlight every so often without me having to sit right next to them the entire time. UGH!!! This si so frustrating!!!
I already said I called all of the animal control places in my area. THEY WILL NOT HELP ME AT ALL.
Thank you, the police are out of the question… they closed our local department because we live in such a small town. We weren’t even on a mapquest until a few years ago.

All we have are the state police. :\

I’ll ask the Humane League about the traps. They already said they wouldn’t do anything about my neighbor so I guess oh well for her.
I hope traps aren’t expensive… There isn’t a job in the world right now haha.

I also hope I don’t get any skunks…
I just called the Humane League AGAIN about this situation… they said they won’t do anything for me at all but I can drive an hour and friggin half to where they are, pick up traps, and deliver the cats. I don’t even have a job right now, I can’t afford that kind of gas over cats! This is BULLSHIT. They’re supposed to deal with animal issues that break the law. The Humane League says to call ORCA and ORCA says it’s not their problem because there aren’t leash laws. Well there’s a law saying they need to be vaccinate and a law stating that they MUST be wearing collars WITH i.d. and proof of rabies vaccination. I thought people were responsible for their animals too? This is crap that nobody is willing to help me…

This is so FRUSTRATING! I’m going to see if there even are shelters/rescue groups around here… Hopefully they have traps and are closer.

OMG did you ever hear of calling animal control, and having these cats trapped.
You can’t stop cats from trapping wild life, so just live with that. And as for them using your gardens as litter boxes there are products on market to deter them from coming on your property. Used coffee ground will keep them from spraying all around your house.
If they are on your property yes you can trap them in safe traps and turn them in to animal shelter as strays.
