i hate living in florida..the weather is horrible…ALWAYS humid year round basically…the bugs are everywhere….the people are retarded and sleazy.

anyone else agree?
and im not from the north..ive lived in florida my whole life.
i agree , its the place everyone goes to die..whats with all the old people moving here to retire? when i retire im going to a place where i dont feel like im stepping in a sauna everytime i go outside

Florida Vacation during Wet season?????help?

I am thinking about trying to plan a 6 day sumer vacation to the Florida Keys. I have never been on a real beach vacation and I would plan to go during in early July, but that is during the “wet season”. I have heard that the wet season is super hot, has really bad mosquitos and biting flies, big chance of storms every afternoon, and you can’t see animal wildlife. Has anyone been to the Keys during July and did you experience any of these things(I am especially concerned about the bugs). Any input will help!

something eating my hollyhocks in florida?

I am fairly new in the gardening business and have sunflowers, primroses, morning glories, zinnia’s, and hollyhock’s. Unfortunately, bits of the leaves on my hollyhock’s keep going missing when I wake up in the morning. None of my other flowers have been getting eaten. I have thoroughly looked at the leaves and find no bugs, and all my plants are in a pool cage. At first I thought maybe the sun was burning the leaves because they need mostly shade, so I moved it to a shadier area, but to no avail. I believe it to be the work of japanese beetles or something similar because it happens at night. I am going to examine them tonight to test my theory. If I do find beetles on the plant, how do I get rid of them without hurting the plant besides picking them off? Thanks, Jeremy.

Thinking about moving my family to Florida .. how is it to live in?

We live up in Mass and hate the weather. We have been to FL many times on vacation but have seriously been thinking of moving there. Possibly to Boca Raton area? Or Coral Springs? Is it nice to live there year round? Are the schools good? My husband does commercial moving .. is there any of that in Florida? Just would love to hear from people who live in Florida how they like it? I hear the bugs are BAD and the humidity is bad in summer but I can’t take these long winters anymore. We are thinking of a gated community area. Please .. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any suggestions.

so far i’ve seen six of these bugs. three at the downtown sonoco gas station, one near walgreens sidewalk on route 37 and one near the downtown oak tree. what kind of bugs are these? about 3 inches long. don’t recall seeing these ever in massena. is it this bug? the florida pincher bug? www.wdwradio.com

Container gardening in Florida…?

I need a list of plants that are resistant to the type of insects here in Tampa.
I know very little about plants and gardening, but I love plants and I would like to have a container garden outside my apartment.
The last garden I planted grew beautifully until it was ravaged by pests. My mini sunflower grew taller than me in a few weeks, but then it was destroyed by some kind of caterpillar/moth. My celosia quickly became completely infested by tiny black bugs that killed it. The zinnias suffered a similar fate, just not quite as quickly. Marigolds seemed to fare a little better, but the only thing that has really survived is some kind of potted palm that I don’t know the name for.
I don’t want to use any pesticides because other animals whom I like also visit my plants, like lizards and frogs. I can be consistent with watering as long as I know how much or how often to do it, and I can provide either full sun or partial shade.
The only problem I have really had is the bugs.
So if anyone knows some plants that grow well in containers, like it hot, and are resistant either to bugs period or to the type of bugs in the central gulf coast area of Florida, let’s hear about ‘em! Thanks!
