Homemade Laundry Soap in the Garden?

Posted by: paco | Comments (3)

OK, I make my own laundry soap. The one made from a bar of grated soap, a cup of Borax, and a 1/2 cup of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda. Sometimes I add a 1/2 a bar of Fels Naptha. The bar of soap I grate is homemade lye soap that I make. A simple recipe of just lye and lard. I know that people who garden organically have a recipe for a garden spray for insects made of soap. I plan to use the “gray water” from my washing machine to water my garden. I figure I can rig up a hose out the window that will reach to my garden so when I do my wash the washing machine will pump the water to the garden. My question is, as I am planning a big organic garden, can I use the wash water with the soap in it the same way the organic gardeners use their soap solution? Or, is my laundry soap recipe different than the insect soap spray? If the two recipes are different does anyone have the garden soap recipe? I do plan to use the rinse water as well but I thought the soap might be beneficial in keeping insects away. Thanks for your help.
