Mouse in my vents! Help!!!?
Posted by: | CommentsSorry, I don’t know the terminology here, but the holes in the floor that circulate the heat and a/c throughout your house…there’s a mouse (or something) running around in the vent system. I’ve heard it at three different vents. It’s definitely alive because it freaked out, made a big thump, and ran away when we shined a flashlight down there. We couldn’t see anything unfortunately.
I was hoping that maybe it would find its way out the way it came in and I wouldn’t have a problem, but it’s been about a week and it’s still running around in there. I’m afraid one of two things will happen: it will die in the vents and the heater will pump dead rodent smell all over the house when the heat kicks on. I’m pregnant and already nauseous and I have no idea how we would handle smelling that while it’s drying up. Or that it will chew a hole through something and cause problems that way.
I have no idea who to call to solve this problem. Would the HVAC people handle this? Someone suggested pest control, but I don’t know that they would know enough about the vent system not to screw it up. Someone else suggested rat poison, but I REALLY don’t want it to die in there and stink up the house.
Also, it’s been like a week since I started hearing it. How long do they live without food and water? It seems like a really long time it’s been in there. Help!!!
A cat is going to climb into my vents? And what do i do with the mouse trap? Should I suspend a mouse trap with a string into the vent?
Group of termites found in my bedroom, should I call for professional help?
Posted by: | CommentsI found group of dead and live termites by my window sill. Do I need to worry and call a professional?
They were inside my house, NOT outside. Also there were some dead ones scattered on the floor.
Can you help me determine the extent of my allergic reaction?
Posted by: | CommentsI have chronic nasal allergies. I went to the doctor for a skin prick test last week. The results show an “erythema” reading on 2 allergens–cats and American cockroaches. The numbers for cats are 3×3 wheal and 5×5 erythema, and on roaches 3×3 wheal and 6×6 erythema. My crappy doctor did not explain these to me. Am I allergic to cats and cockroaches? How severly? Also, on the controls my histamine was 11×8 wheal and 53×23 erythema. I had no antihistamines for 3+ days prior to testing.
If I meet someone with the plaque, how can I help them?
Posted by: | CommentsImagine I time travel back to a time where it is common for people to have the bubonic plague. Apart from explaining to them somehow about controlling their rat population and increasing their general hygiene, what knowledge could I bring back that would help them greatly? (This is a hypothetical question. I am not a time traveller.)
Woops! I mean Plague. Thanks for pointing that out
