I have recently bought an Oldenburg gelding and he’s a real sweetie. When I bought him the previous owners said that he was normally stabled in the daytime and out at night for the summer as he didn’t like the flies! Understatement it seems!!!!
Anyway, he has been fly rugged up to the hilt and have followed their advice and he is getting bitten by something nasty at night ho ho! So now he is out in that day still rugged up and is fine but am going to have to bring him in at night I think!
What I want to know is what is likely to be biting him as all info I have looked up say horse flies don’t come out at night? He has scabby bites all over his face and neck and they are weepy and yucky. He has then had I guess a hives type reaction on his neck and especially on his belly. The vet has been out and given him an injection and some antibiotics to stop infection and I have got some super fly spray, wash and tablets for future occurences.
Any extra advice would be very welcome as I will not get to ride him all summer at this rate?
Thanks

I am getting rather worried about my cresty he has been acting really odd. He does not seem to be sticking to the glass and been really clumsy falling off allot of stuff and jumping into the glass. I have had him since christmas. He doesn’t seem to be eating much at all. He doesn’t touch his crested gecko diet and hasn’t been for the last several months, i haven’t seen him hunt for crickets in several months also. I have tried varying his diet i have tried, wax-worms, crickets, locusts(hoppers) and meal worms, i have replaced his CGD with a smoothie mix i made for him with lots of different fruit with calcium i added my self, he seems to like it when i feed it him but he wont go eat it himself. He also seems to spend allot of the time at the bottom of the tank. I know my self this isn’t normal for a cresty and frankly i am rather worried about the little guy and i have no idea what to do i feel i have tried everything, could someone please help?
He is very tame and is very sociable, when i put my hand in the cage he tends to jump straight on my hand and loves to wander around my desk. When i open the cage and he is at the bottom he jumps onto the little ledge of the tank (exo-terra swing doors) to get out, he is a very friendly gecko and loves to be handled and explore.

I have a fairly large yard, and it is the norm in my neighbourhood to have gardens, trees, and the like. The problem is, this has attracted different species of wildlife. Now there are rabbits, squirrels, occasional raccoons, in the winter, foxes, many birds, crows, woodpeckers.. The list goes on. All these mammals and birds are usually a joy to behold, but they seem to be eating my strawberries.. I have not yet caught the culprit, but they are getting off easy anyhow as I like to use non-lethal ways to deal with pesky critters.

Leaf-sapping, cherry-destroying, shirt-staining, sticky, tiny, little insects, however, I cannot give as much slack. I describe them as small, round beetle-like bugs. They cannot fly and are very, very, tiny. Maybe 1millimetre in length and width. They don’t eat the leaves, but it seems like they are more parasitic; they latch on and sap the life out of the leaves. The leaves remain green, but they shrivel and slowly turn rotten. Oh, and they reproduce at the speed of light. I am still against chemical warfare, though, but other than that, I’ll do anything. I value my cherries above all other fruits in my yard. The old tree is 50 years old, and undoubtedly it’ll survive these pests, but I don’t know if I can. Help?

please don’t say i shouldn’t of got one if i don’t know how to care for him,i do i am just wondering, i know they can eat cat food, & i also know they can meal worms & crickets for treats, but am wondering what other things, & about the picking him up, i am trying to get used to him and don’t want to spook him, plus i’m nervous that i’ll hurt him if he spikes his spikes up,

Thank you x

We have suddenly noticed some strange insects on the landing in our house. They are about the size of a flea about 6/7mm and are black/dark brownish. I had not seen them flying, although there were some on door posts, in the bathroom and elsewhere. I sprayed some insect killer and 24 hours later, I found loads of them on teh carpet underneath the entrance to the loft. I daren’t open the hatch (being squeamish) but I suspect they must be in there. They are not jumping like fleas. What could them be, furniture beetle? Should I contact the environmental health or just continue to spray stuff around. Please help!
Many thanks for the two answers so far. I am still spraying the Kybosh, which seems to be working as there were fewer bodies today! Any more ideas from anyone with a similar experience? Many thanks
