Sorry, I don’t know the terminology here, but the holes in the floor that circulate the heat and a/c throughout your house…there’s a mouse (or something) running around in the vent system. I’ve heard it at three different vents. It’s definitely alive because it freaked out, made a big thump, and ran away when we shined a flashlight down there. We couldn’t see anything unfortunately.

I was hoping that maybe it would find its way out the way it came in and I wouldn’t have a problem, but it’s been about a week and it’s still running around in there. I’m afraid one of two things will happen: it will die in the vents and the heater will pump dead rodent smell all over the house when the heat kicks on. I’m pregnant and already nauseous and I have no idea how we would handle smelling that while it’s drying up. Or that it will chew a hole through something and cause problems that way.

I have no idea who to call to solve this problem. Would the HVAC people handle this? Someone suggested pest control, but I don’t know that they would know enough about the vent system not to screw it up. Someone else suggested rat poison, but I REALLY don’t want it to die in there and stink up the house.

Also, it’s been like a week since I started hearing it. How long do they live without food and water? It seems like a really long time it’s been in there. Help!!!
A cat is going to climb into my vents? And what do i do with the mouse trap? Should I suspend a mouse trap with a string into the vent?

Question by Quy C: Omg!!! Please help me with my out of control cats :•(?
PLEASE HELP ME!!! I am beyond my wits end with these 2. I have 2 cats 1 I have had since she was a kitten, the other I saved from going to the rescue when my grandmother passed; they r sisters from the same litter and just turned 3 last month (they are strictly indoor cats). When I had just the 1 cat “pappi” she would do things like knocking things over, but I just figured it was typical cat exploration. Originally my only real problem with her was her getting on my counters but I was able to block her from my kitchen (problem solved, so I thought). When my grandmother passed, I took in her cat “smokii” out of the pity of the thought of her going to a shelter especially since she was a very chill cat (or so I thought). When I first brought smokii home I had to keep her isolated to my bedroom because pappi didn’t appreciate the company however she eventually came along and now she deals with her sister. Now my problems with smokii began in my bedroom; during the time she spent in my room she got into and onto everything breaking picture frames knocking everything over because she is easily twice pappi’s size and OMG she would shed on everything (but that isn’t her fault). Also, when she uses the box a lot of times she doesn’t cover it so if I’m out by the time I get home my house smells like a alley. I do clean the box frequently it just seems to be a habit of hers. Since they both get onto the counter I banned them both but occasionally smokii sets them free to reak havoc. Also, smokii gets into all of my cabinets. I’ve tried the water bottle which doesn’t work cuz they don’t mind the water they sit next to tub while the kids splash as well as the citrus scents; I’ve put double sided tape down which was more of a annoyance for me cuz either they don’t mind it or manuver around it. they have their own toys but I stopped buying them cuz they rather play with my stuff or trash. To make matters worse they rather sleep all day and terrorize whenever I sleep. Now my 2 biggest problems are that my poor pappi is now picking up a lot of bad habits and the only thing that seems to discipline them is my presence because only when they’ve been terrorizing they kind of hide (mostly smokii) when they hear/see me coming and its only me. Please help, I am really concerned for their safety most importantly because not only are they hanging around chemical and rodent poisons but once pappi mysteriously turned the knob to my gas stove and singed her wiskers. Oh yeah, another favorite is spilling the water from the bowl. Please please please help I don’t want to get rid of my grandmother’s cat but I feel like I’m out of options I do give them attention/affection but pappi is pretty anti social and only wants it on her time but smokii is a attention hog. Fyi: I’m on a tight budget so I can’t afford to buy tons of products to experiment with them either

Answer by susan n
I can answer some of your question anyway.

For the cabinets you can buy those plastic “child-proof” thingies they sell in any department or hardware store. Once you install those that problem should be over.

The water bowl problem is a common one. My solution was to replace the cats’ water dishes with a large heavy saucepan. They can’t tip it.

To prevent splashing you can put it on a cafeteria tray so water doesn’t run all over the floor.

The gas stove knob problem is a bit scary. I don’t know this but I am guessing they manufacture something to make the knobs harder to turn. You could check wherever they sell the things to stop toddlers from opening cabinet doors.

Hope this helps with part of your problem.

Question by stormwarnfm: New puppy, maybe blue tick or catahoula, have questions, can you help?
We have a new puppy. We now assume he was dumped (no one responded to our “found” ads or called in any missing puppy at our pound) at our home. He is about 6-8 weeks old by looking at him.

I will be taking him to the vet on payday to get puppy shots, so I will know more for sure, hopefully, what breed he is…but looking at pictures online…he looks like either a blue tick hound or a catahoula hound.

He has a brindle face and a black dot on his back that is perfectly round…his tail is already docked (which is why we placed found ads, first), and his fur is mostly white with this undertone of brown . His front legs are kind of spotty or “ticked”.

We have a Miniature Schnauzer and 6 cats, and all are getting along with him great, thank goodness!

My questions are:

If he is blue tick or catahoula, what is their temperament? I know those breeds are bred to hunt, but we have a Miniature Schnauzer, so we know all about what to do, such as keeping in a fenced yard and always on a leash when walking so they don’t run after a leaf, etc…haha

How big does a dog like that get? He will be an inside dog, but be allowed plenty of walks and playtime with my 2 kids. Probably a good 3 or 4 hours of good activity a day, and we are starting to kennel train him, which he seems to be liking.

How trainable are they? The little guy seems pretty smart…he is taking to his kennel, as I mentioned, as well as learning commands like “come”, “inside”, and “outside” and the word “kennel”.

Finally, what else would I need to know about this breed to make sure that we know what to have or do to cater to his needs?
Good idea on the microchip…surely a vet would check that out for free before my payday comes next week.

That’s what made us suspect, too, the docked tail…when we found him…the dock was dirty…it wasn’t fresh…but looked like he had a little bit of scab left.

My only thoughts are either: he is a lost puppy, OR, someone thought they could handle a puppy and couldn’t…as almost all puppies are chewers, etc…and if you’re not prepared or dedicated to changing those behaviors, it won’t happen.

Thanks for that idea, and thanks to the other poster for that link on Cattle dogs…he’s not that “ticked” but he sure could have that build.
***EDIT*** HERE’S a picture of Chance.

http://www.geocities.com/stormwarnfm/chance.jpg

One last thing…the brown ticking is really light on his hind legs…and darker on his front legs…this picture is a week old and his legs are darker now.

Answer by kristendw78
It sounds to me like you might have an Australian Cattle Dog pup there. The site has some info about them http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/australiancattledog.htm and I found a picture of one with a spot on it’s back like your pup http://www.haustiere-info.de/images/tiere/australian-cattle-dog.jpg
and here’s the AKC site http://www.akc.org/breeds/australian_cattle_dog/

Edit: Hmmm. Now that you’ve posted a picture of him, I’d say he looks sort of like a Jack Russell terrier. The vet might be able to give you a better idea about his breeds(s). Strange that no one has claimed him. Have you tried posting ads online? I know www.petfinder.com has a lost and found section, plus there are many others you can try. It just seems odd that someone had the pups tail docked, and isn’t looking for it. Plus if he did escape, he couldn’t have traveled too far being so young.

Question by dizzydazzler: Indians i need your help! I don’t know what to do!?
so I’m an Indian guy who recently got married through an arranged marriage process and I have to say I couldn’t be any more delighted or pleased with the income, i mean outcome, because my spouse and I have a lot in common. With that being said, there is a bit of a dilemma that I am facing: I’m hinting that she wants to have sex with me seeing as how she tried making a move on me a couple nights ago and I had to brush her off and she was left bewildered with a strange look on her face. I’m a virgin (not sure if she is or not) and ever since I was 17 when I first learned about the male orgasm, I’ve been performing sex act fetishes solitaryn my own to myself in order to satisfy my own sexual urges. I do things like hang myself from trees while applying poison ivy over my genitals, or insert my ding-dong on certain oil filters of different sizes in my car, or just doing it with the front door knob for that matter (basically anything that could be considered as being as some sort of a “penis fly trap”). While I am attracted to my newly attached wife (she kinda looks like Pryanka Chopra) which is a plus, I feel if I was to have sex with her, I would be all in it for the sole pleasure of myself and not hers. Not to mention, my body requires a lot of space around me as I am not accustomed to close contact unless I’m playing football, basketball, etc. How can I explain this to her without losing her amidst this situation?????
