Is there a difference in powder post beetles and powder post termites?
We have just built a home and have discovered powder post beetles in our flooring. When I talked to my exterminator, he made it sound like they were beetles and our course of action should be fumigation (tenting it). Fumigation of our home would range between $8,000 – $10,000. That seems a bit high and maybe a bit hasty. I called another exterminator for a second opinion and they said it should be covered by my pretreat due to it being of they termite family. I have investigated but I am still unsure if they are the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Power post beetles are fairly rare. Are they sure it is active? Tap the wood. If a whitish powder comes out it is. Treatment is not difficult. Never heard of tenting a house for powderpost beetles. However, they may be worse than the PPB in my area.
I;ve never heard of power post termites.
