BABY HUMMINGBIRD or a BUG? Which is it?

www.hotroast.com – Is it a baby hummingbird? A cute, fuzzy bug? A flying miniature lobster? SCROLL DOWN FOR THE ANSWER o_o ANSWER At first glance this cute and busy little critter looks like a baby hummingbird. Look at how he moves! But after further investigation I discovered this bird is a bug impostor! See the antennae and proboscis? He (or she) is a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth (Hemaris Thysbe). Yup, a diurnal moth. Cheeky little bugger!!! And much cuter than a mosquito! Music: “Yage Camera – Travelin’ Mix” by Audio Morphology

The “Sphinx” is one of the Iberian groups most beautiful moths. Many have a similar flight of a hummingbird, and fed similarly, no beak, but with a very long proboscis and in flight. The best known is the hummingbird sphinx (Macroglossum stellatarum) which also flies by day, in the afternoon.
